Principles/ points to be considered while drafting specification
(a) Subject Matter
The subject matter of specification should give the information related to that work. Instruction should not be repeated again and again.
(b) Grammar
Specification should follow the rules of grammar. Any addition, misplacement of comma should not after sense of a tense.
(c) Abbreviation
Standard abbreviation familiar for any project work shall be used in specification.
(d) Development of style
The specifications shall be arranged in such a way to give a clear idea, elegant and impressive style.
(e) Selection of words
Suitable words with desired meaning shall be used. Words with double meaning shall not be used.
(f) Accuracy
The specification shall be accurate and complete. Inaccurate information may result in extra cost to owner claimed by contractor.
(g) Conflicting requirement
Specifications should be framed in such a way that no conflict of any results in.
(h) Clarity
The specification should clear and should not be open to different interpretations.
(i) Fairness
The specification should be fair to all the parties. It should not throw all the risks and responsibilities on the contractor.
(j) Brevity
The sentences of specification should be short, simple and concise. Brevity is the essence of specifications.
