Classification based on sources
1. House waste
Solid wastes generated from residential houses are called house wastes. It includes vegetables wastes, fruit wastes, animal waste matter, ash, dust, plastic, papers, glass, crockery, rags, etc.
2. Street waste
Solid waste generated from the use of street are called street waste. It include the dust blown from unused land and roads, deed and decaying vegetables, seeds originating either from avenue or blown from marginal area.
3. Commercial waste
The solid wastes obtained from commercial and business center are called commercial wastes. It includes stationary material vegetable waste, fruit waste, cardboard, furniture’s, plastics, etc.
4. Demolition and construction waste
The waste generated from demolition and construction of structure is known as demolition and construction waste. It includes pieces of bricks, dust, wooden pieces, cement powder, pieces of tiles, concrete, sand, clay, etc. these waste are not expected to collect in collection bin, but the agencies are required to bring these wastes directly to the specific disposal sites for its disposal.
Classification based on characteristic
1. Organic solid waste
These are the combustible materials, which subjected to decay with time and produces highly offensive odour and gases. It includes vegetable wastes, fruit waste, cow dung, tree leaves, dead animal, plastic bottle, paper rags, wooden furniture, etc.
2. Inorganic solid waste
These are the non-combustible material, which does not subject to decay with time. It includes metal pieces, broken glasses, pieces of tiles, ash, dust, broken crockery, etc.
